A practical checklist for hosting a casino night at home or at the office: how many tables, how many chips, how to set the room and what to do about dealers.

Casino night room with a green felt blackjack table, roulette wheel and brass candlesticks

A casino night is one of the easiest themed parties to get right, because the entertainment is built into the furniture. Guests walk in, see a green felt table and know what to do. The work is in the details: how many tables, how many chips and how to make a living room feel like a lounge.

Start with the number of tables

A good rule is one table for every 15 to 20 guests, with at least two different games so people can drift. A blackjack table seats five players with a crowd standing behind. A roulette wheel handles more people at once because everyone bets on the same spin. For 40 guests, one blackjack table and one roulette wheel is a comfortable starting point, and a second blackjack table if the group is more competitive.

The tables

Chips, cards and the rules

Count on 50 to 100 chips per player at the start, in a mix of denominations. Our blackjack kit comes with 300 chips and the roulette set with 200. Chips are play money only. Hand each guest a starting stack at the door, and run a simple leaderboard if you want a winner at the end of the night.

Set the room

  • Clear at least three feet around each table so people can stand behind the players.
  • Dim overhead lights and bring in lamps or candles. Casinos are never brightly lit.
  • Dress side tables in dark linen so the green felt stays the star.
  • Put the bar away from the tables so drink traffic does not block the games.
  • Choose a playlist with a little swing and keep it low enough to hear the dealer.

Dress the room

Dealers, or no dealers

A hired dealer makes a night feel like a real casino and frees you to play. If your budget is limited, recruit two friends who know the game and give them a short rehearsal before guests arrive. The point is momentum: a table that is running beats a table that is waiting.

A timeline that works

  1. Delivery in the morning or the day before, with our crew setting tables.
  2. Guests arrive, drinks and snacks, chips handed out at the door.
  3. Games open for about two hours, with a mid-evening announcement of the leaders.
  4. Final round and a small prize, then dessert and music.
  5. We collect the tables the next morning.

Casino night is a night where people move around and talk to people they did not come with, which is why it works so well for company parties and milestone birthdays alike. Our Casino Night Package bundles two tables with matching decor if you want the whole room in one reservation.
